A digital footprint is a a mark you make on the internet. Little did I know that a digital footprint is made every time you hop on the internet and just a little trip to your respective social media. I was really unknowing of the risk people take every time they hop on social media and do a little research on the internet. It is basically described as a trail of information you leave behind when you surf the web in any shape or form. It is tracked by online services also. So leaving a track unintentionally, is called passive digital footprints. I was unaware of the risk thinking that leaving a digital footprint because I use it so often and take it for granted. I liked how the first video link talked about interest in shopping products follow you on different websites. I found that so interesting. It was great information so it needs to be stated. The four reasons why you want to protect yourself from a lot of carbon footprints is because you want to protect your reputation, you want to have the ability on how and where your personal information is shared, you differently want to prevent financial loss, and above all preserving your freedom. Corporations use digital footprints to micro target consumers and know more about them. This in the end run is all about money. They want to know your like/dislikes, hobbies, etc. They want to know this to put the right/appealing information so you spend money or just consume yourself with their makings. For example a company does does this a lot involuntary is Facebook. One major thing people to ruin their digital footprint is display them self in a wrongful manner. This is done mainly through social media. Don’t get me wrong social media is a great way to stay contacted with friends and family all over the world. Many did not have that privilege years ago. This generation is so advance and we wrongfully take it for granted sometimes. Whenever you create a bad image for your say on Facebook or any media platform, that carries with you because of your digital footprint. It is very difficult to take something of the internet once it goes viral because people will always see that side of you and might have ways and means to save the post before you take it out. So definitely not a wise choice when waning to apply for jobs and interview for college scholarships and all that good stuff. So it is very important to watch where you surf on the internet. It’s important to watch where you put your sensitive informative like card and contact. Also, it is important how you portray yourself anywhere on the internet because digital foot printing is happening all the time it is out of our control once it is in the clouds. So all in all, it is always important to stay vigilant on the internet every single day you use it. The digital foot printing is among us consumers of the web and we can’t do anything about it in that sense.
